"To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the Heaven.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1) As the book of Ecclesiastes says, there is a time for everything – even a time to meet and a time to say goodbye. After completing a blessed, fruitful and unforgettable two years with you, now it is time for me to say goodbye because I have to go back to my country, Sri Lanka. I am leaving on January 14, saying “Yes” to My Lord Jesus once again and accepting another mission with which He is entrusting me.
“I praise you, my Lord, you turned my mourning into dancing. You removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy.” (Psalm 30:11) With unending praise and thanks, I offer every happy, beautiful, and loving memory -- along with the blessings which I received and enjoyed -- to our Lady of the Immaculate Conception and Assumption and to Almighty God, the Father.
I heard and believe this: “Some people come into our lives and leave footprints on our hearts and we are changed forever.” I thank Rev. Dr. Anthony Sorgie, our Fr. Sorgie. I call him “ Dr.” not only because of the Doctorate he obtained from Columbia University but also because of the expert guidance, genuine fatherly love, care and concern, and wisdom I experienced as his loving son. He became a beacon of light to my Priestly journey. I pray that the Good Lord bless Fr. Sorgie as he continues his mission of healing wounded souls, a mission to which he is specially anointed and called.
I especially thank Rev. Fr. Adolfo Novio who became so close to me during this stay. He is like my own brother now. I remember Rev. Fr. Seán Connolly, too. I thank them for their brotherly love.
“I thank my Lord each time I think of you and when I pray for you, I pray with joy.” (Phillippians 1:3-4) My dear brothers and sisters, thank you not only for being a loving parishioner to me but also for being a loving brother, loving sister and friend. Each and every loving deed, every single word of encouragement and your appreciation and kindness made me feel that I was not away from my home and my family.
My words are not enough to express my heartfelt gratitude to you all. Yet, I say thank you very much for all that you have been to me and I assure you that I will raise you all to My Lord Jesus in my prayers. My final and humble appeal to you is to remember me in your prayers and never forget that there is a priest for you in Sri Lanka, a faraway country, with you in the spirit of prayer. I love you all and invite you to my country for a visit!
